About Melons and Squash

If you want to get a jump start on your melons, cucumbers, and squash you can start them indoors now. You’ll be transplanting them in just a couple of weeks, so if you’re not anxious you can just wait and plant them directly outside. Click here to learn about starting seeds indoorsClick here for more information about melons, cucumbers, and squash.

About Planting Outside

Planting outside almost always refers to planting a seed. This week there are several plants you may either transplant (plant a plant you started inside or purchased) or plant outside (from seed). For more information click here.

Happy gardening!

If you live in an area with frost dates, it’s unlikely you will have enough frost-free days to grow tomatoes from seed. You either have to start them indoors or buy transplants.

  2. Melissa says:

Did I miss it? When do you start tomatoes from seed outside?

  3. Emily says:

I will add this to my list of things to think about. I actually found a cool website that has me thinking along the same lines. It may take me until next season to formulate, but I’ll work on it!

Hey there! Love all the things you share. Just great! Was just watching a couple videos of you on youtube. Thanks for those!

I was just thinking it would be great to know a stat for each week. Like temp/weather…. if we saw this year being much colder or that warm weather came sooner than maybe we could plant outside earlier or skip indoor starts? Would that help us plant better for years that may be colder or warmer than the usual?
I am a bit embarrassed that I could suggest you put in more work hours. :)
I am new and just like to ask Q’s.
God Bless have a great day!

  5. Emily says:

You can try starting earlier, but there’s always a balance since they transplant best at a certain size. My sources recommended this schedule, but I’m happy to revise it if I receive better data!

  6. Tianna says:

Do cantaloupe, summer squash, cucumbers, and watermelon all really only take two weeks to grow inside before time to transplant?
